At Hansei, meaning “self-reflection” in Japanese, Chef Chris Ono (prev. of Eleven Madison Park, RyuGin in Tokyo, and Mori Sushi) presents a tasting menu concept that explores the esteemed chef’s roots as a fourth generation Japanese American, while providing a modern interpretation of “LA Nikkei” cuisine in line with Japanese seasonality and featuring the best of California’s farmer’s market produce. Hansei’s three-part dining experience transitions courses throughout the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center’s breathtaking new Toshizo Watanabe Culinary Center and historic James Irvine Japanese Garden, a tranquil oasis hidden in the heart of Little Tokyo.
